How To... Add Flash Video to Your Page

Display Flash video in your Pepperio pages.

This 'How To' supposes that you will be working with three flash files within your Asset library; the actual video_content.flv file (by far the biggest of the three), a swf file that acts as a shell to load and pull in the flv clip (video_shell.swf), and the third file (that is optional) is the skin file that holds the video controls (ArticExternalPlaySeekMute.swf).

The three are shown above alongside the video_shell.fla which will require more editing before finally exporting the video_shell.swf.

1. Convert, Compile & Upload

Convert and compile the flv file and also the video control skin (in this case called 'ArticExternalPlaySeekMute.swf). Upload these files to your Asset library.

2. Amend Paths

In Flash, open the video_shell.fla and click on the Parameters tab, in the properties window, of the flv playback compiled clip (the video object most probably located on the stage). This tab enables you to change settings such as; autoPlay, autoResize and autoSize, etc. Scroll down and find the options for contentPath and skin, these are the references to the flv and video control skin respectively. Both of these will be local paths. They now need to be changed to reflect the new environment from which they will be deployed...

3. Copy Asset urls & Re-export

Locate the clips you are using in the Pepperio Asset library and double click to view the properties of each clip. In the bottom section, 'File upload and Information' copy the url displayed. These paths can then be pasted in to the appropriate fields, contentPath and skin of the Flash clip.

Re-export your Flash movie. It will most probably fire up a warning informing you that one or other of the clips don't exist. Ignore this and upload the swf (video_shell.swf) to your Pepperio Asset library. Add it to the page and it should display the video.
